2016ProMX_RedBud_LocalBUCHANAN, Mich. – RedBud, one of the most famous tracks in the country, will host the 2016 RedBud National this Saturday, July 2, as part of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship.

This season will be the 43rd running of the RedBud National dating back to 1974. Since then, there have been only five international winners at RedBud across both classes – Grant Langston, Chad Reed, Stephane Roncada, Sebastien Tortelli and Ken Roczen. Roczen is the only one to win in both classes and comes in fresh off wins last weekend at the Red Bull Tennessee National.

Racing at RedBud has been a staple of the Independence Day celebrations, dating back to 1978. This will also be the 35th time the gate will drop for a 450 Class race at RedBud.

Several of the greatest motocross riders in history have shined at RedBud, including Jeff Ward, who is the only rider in RedBud history to win in three classes – 125cc in 1984, 250cc in 1990, and 500cc in 1988 – all on a Kawasaki. Ricky Carmichael’s seven RedBud wins came consecutively from 2001-07, running on three different brands – Kawasaki, Honda and Suzuki. Carmichael is the all-time wins leader at Red Bud with seven.

The 2015 RedBud overall podium finalists in the 450 Class were Justin Barcia, Ryan Dungey and Roczen, who was the 2014 champion. Dungey won titles in 2010 and 2012. In the 250 Class, Jeremy Martin was the 2015 champion, with Zach Osborne and Cooper Webb taking second and third. Martin will look to claim his third straight title, and only the third rider overall to win three in a row in the 250 Class. Ryan Villopoto was the last to do it from 2006-08.

Action starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday and carries on throughout the day, culminating with fireworks at sundown. For ticket information or closer race details, visit http://www.redbudmx.com/
